The Pursuit of Holiness

Carly and I have a bit of a problem. Combining our bedside table and a shelf in our room, we probably have about 10 books (at least) that we are in the middle of. They're all ones that we are enjoying and want to finish, but then at some point we begin another and each night holds the same huge decision: which book do we read this time?

We added another book last night, but I have absolutely no regrets. The Pursuit of Holiness, by Jerry Bridges, is a classic, and for good reason. Only a chapter in and we have been immensely encouraged in our faith and that the Christian life isn't meant to be a walk in the park. Of course there are immense joys to be found, but when we begin to believe that things should always go smoothly or that obedience should feel easy, we have been deluded somewhere along the way. Rather than discourage us, this greatly spurs us on to persevere (Hebrews 12:1), to fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12), and to run so as to win the prize (1 Corinthians 9:24). 

Even if you've read this book before, it's worth reading again! We can't wait to dig in further. At least for now, it's making that nightly decision just a little bit easier. 👍🏻
