A Special Project
This story begins almost 10 years ago when we launched our first Kickstarter campaign to purchase our laser engraver (the one we are still using today)!
In God’s kind providence, one of the many backers of that Kickstarter was a man named Thaine - someone I didn’t know at the time, but who has now become a good friend and someone I deeply admire and respect. Over the past ten years, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with Thaine on some projects and the opportunity to visit Thaine and his family in their home in the Colorado mountains. Thaine is a man with lots of great ideas, but what encourages me most about him is that all of his ideas are fueled by a desire to spread the Gospel and the love of Jesus as far and as wide as possible.
Most recently, Thaine came to me with a project that involved lettering the titles of two different books by 19th century Scotsman, George MacDonald. MacDonald is the author of around 50 volumes of novels, poetry, short stories, fantasy, sermons, and essays. His writing was instrumental in leading C.S. Lewis from atheism to Christianity. Thaine was working on re-designing and re-introducing two MacDonald fairytales, The Princess and The Goblin and The Princess and Curdie, books that were inspirations for The Chronicles of Narnia, The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings. Old books are where I get a lot of my design inspiration and Thaine gave me full creative freedom in designing the titles as well as all of the drop caps throughout the book. Though I rarely take on custom projects, this one sounded too fun to pass up. I also have a hard time saying no to a project with Thaine because they always encompass a kingdom-advancing goal.
We just received the newly printed books and it’s so fun to have the finished copies in hand! Learn more about Walking Together Press here.
