We haven’t shared an update on our foster and adoption process in a very long time, so we thought we’d share a long-overdue update on how things have been going. It’s hard to believe that the little guy who first came into our home as a toddler has now been with us for almost three years and is almost six years old!
When we shared our last update, we still had no idea what the future would hold. Since then, the process has included more delays, changes, and waiting than we ever could have imagined. There have been so many moments when we thought we were finally moving forward, only to find ourselves waiting again.
But after nearly three years, we’re now preparing to begin the adoption process.
The Lord has stretched us in countless ways through all of this, many of which we never could have anticipated when we first said yes to foster care. These have honestly been some of the hardest years of our lives, but they have also been some of the most fruitful. Every person in our family has grown through the challenges, the uncertainty, and the daily work of learning how to love and care for one another and to trust and depend on the Lord.
We’re so thankful for the opportunity to make him an official member of our family. We’re praying that the adoption process will move smoothly and quickly from here, but after everything these past three years have taught us, we’re continuing to trust God’s plan and timing over our own.
We’re also thankful for everyone who has prayed for our family, encouraged us, and supported us throughout this journey. We’re hopeful that the next update we share will be the one where we can finally say the adoption is complete!
Walking through this process has also made the truth that God adopts us into His family even more meaningful. Choosing to keep loving this little guy that God has sovereignly brought into our family, even through the moments when loving him has been the hardest, has reminded us how incredible it is that God has done the same for us. He did not wait for us to become worthy of His love. He loved us in our sin, welcomed us as His children through Christ, and gave us a place in His family that can never be taken away.
