Stuff We Love - Autumn Edition
We are so thankful for the amount of great resources there are for us and our kids as we seek to know and grow in our knowledge of and love for the Lord. And we love every chance we get to share about them here.
Here are just a few of our recent favorites:
Good News for Little Hearts
These just might be our favorite children’s books series. Three new books were recently added to the series making a total of nine and each one focuses on a specific character trait or real-life issue that children face. The content is solid and the illustrations are so fun. We highly recommend all of them!
Gospel Grown
Gospel Grown exists to make the Bible come alive for children by producing biblically rich and visually captivating books. The Promise of Life and their newest addition, The Darkest Day, are two such books. Our girls have read The Promise of Life multiple times and enjoy it so much. We love that it’s written in a deep yet simple way that teaches them important truths from God’s Word in a way that they can grasp.
Free Burma Rangers
Free Burma Rangers is a documentary film* exploring the extraordinary 20-year journey of missionaries Dave and Karen Eubank. The film follows Dave, Karen, and their three young children, as they venture into war zones where they are fighting to bring hope. We have been so spurred on and challenged by the incredible faith of this family and the love they have for the Lord and others.
(*Note: We did not watch this with our kids as it includes some intense, graphic sequences of war violence.)
What’s Best Next
Chris has read a lot of great productivity books over the years, but this one has been especially helpful. With the subtitle of “How the Gospel Transforms the Way You Get Things Done,” Matt Perman writes of a counter-cultural basis for productivity: putting others first—making the welfare of others our motive and criteria in determining what to do with our time. Whether for life, family,or business, this Gospel-transformed mindset is the foundation to finding meaning and fulfillment in our work.
Wonderfull
We’ve loved and benefited from so many of Marty Machowski’s books and have used several of them for family worship. We’re currently reading through the Psalms as a family using his newest book, Wonderfull: Ancient Psalms Ever New. It helps teach our kids (and us) to use the whole book of the Psalms to pray, worship, and find help through the challenges life is certain to bring.
