Adoption - Part 3

We’ve walked alongside enough people through their adoption processes to know that the path is filled with many twists and turns and opportunities to wait on and trust in the Lord. So we were well-prepared for a change of direction that occurred on day 1 of “officially” setting out on this adoption adventure.

After months of prayer and conversations, we had finally decided on an adoption agency and the country from which we’d pursue adoption. In November we submitted our official application to the agency and we were excited to get the ball rolling! However, the very next day we heard from the agency, letting us know that there was an issue in regards to the type of medical insurance they required. There are too many details to go into here, but basically we soon realized it was going to be a quite a problem. After several phone calls and some research, it became clear the the other agency we were initially thinking of using was going to be the best choice for our family.

As we switched gears, we simultaneously came across another family who also owns their own business and had recently adopted. They adopted five children from Costa Rica and we soon learned that they went through the same agency that we had now decided to go through. After speaking with the Latin America program director and learning more about the similarities and differences between adopting from Colombia and adopting from Costa Rica, we decided that Costa Rica was an even better fit for our family and the Lord just made it so clear that this whole change of plans was His doing, not ours.

I absolutely LOVE when God steps in, puts what first seem like obstacles in our paths, and then changes our course so that we’re even more sure that we’re walking in the path He has prepared.

This was such an answer to prayer for clarity, for direction, and for God to make His will known in this process. We believe this will be the first of many such answers to prayer and we are so thankful and super excited for what’s to come!

We started a separate page of our website where we will have all of our adoption updates in one place. If you’re interested in following along you can do so here.
