Adoption - Part 4

It’s been awhile! Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years all happened and we enjoyed an incredibly busy season and then a sweet time of rest over the holidays. And as 2021 began we officially started out on the home study portion of our adoption process. We are so thankful to be on this journey. During this phase, we have had the opportunity to learn so much through the required reading and education. Even though we’ve been surrounded by family and close friends who have adopted (internationally and domestically) for many years, this part of the process has been so eye-opening and helpful especially as we learn it for ourselves and think about these things in terms of our own lives and family.

It can be easy to think of this process as more of a hurdle we have to jump over in order to get to the finish line of welcoming children into our family, but it truly is a journey that we can enjoy with each step we are called to take. It’s filled with requirements, but these requirements can be seen as wonderful opportunities and we’re learning to see them as such. Opportunities to take in a lot of information, to learn a lot, to meet and get to know new people (and a new language as we learn Spanish together as a family!), and to see God’s kindness and care in specific provisions and answers to prayer.

We also see it as a season to enjoy before our family changes… a lot! As we mentioned before, we plan to adopt siblings and if the Lord wills, we’ll go from a family of 4 to a family of 6 or 7 overnight. So we want to enjoy this year or more as we go through this part of the process and pour into our marriage and the daughters the Lord’s already given to us, and look forward together to all of the changes ahead.

The next step is to have our home visit from a social worker and yes, more paperwork. But things are moving along smoothly and for that we are very thankful!

Once again, we can’t thank you enough for your prayers and support! We plan to have another adoption fundraising sale in March so be on the lookout for that!
