The Winding Road

It’s been over a year since we updated on where we are in our journey toward adoption. If you’ve continued to pray for our family, we can’t thank you enough! It’s been another year with lots of training, paperwork, waiting, and trusting and honestly, we can’t say enough about how thankful we are to God for His perfect plans and wise timing. Seeing His hand in all of the opened and closed doors over the past two years has been so encouraging and He’s been so kind to give so many glimpses of why this plan (nor our original plan) is so good.

The time we’ve had with our daughters, getting to invest in them, know them better, watch them grow and mature in different ways, and spend more focused time as a family of four has been invaluable and we’ve been so grateful for that. He’s done so much in their hearts during this time and we’ve had so many great conversations with them through this process. It’s also been so strengthening for our marriage and our faith, trusting God’s timing together and stepping into something completely different than we had foreseen has been exciting.

Now we’re just about a month or two away, Lord willing, from final approval and opening our home for foster care and we have no idea what the future holds, but we like it that way. We don’t know who the children or what their needs will be that He calls us to care for. We don’t know what it will be like to get a call and have another child in our home for anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of years or longer. We don’t know if He’ll ever even call us to adopt as we had originally planned or if our home will just be a place to love the children He brings to us while they need a safe place. We feel so dependent on the Lord and are more confident and united than ever that this is what He’s called us to and we’re heading into it in His strength, not our own.

A couple months ago we asked what you all are currently enjoying reading and one of you responded that you’re reading the book Fostered, by Tori Hope Petersen. We’ve been reading it and it’s been a hard story to read, but so helpful at the same time to prepare our hearts for the vulnerable children that the Lord would bring into our home.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers for your family, for your encouraging words, and even for recommending books to us! We’re so grateful.
